Errors
Guided By Voices
The Maccabees
FOE - Bad Dream Hotline
Won't be to ever DiSsers taste, which is usually a good thing. S'like Uffie joining The Kills to write an album based around the concept of David Lynch's Crazy Clown Time.
David Edwards gave this 8/10 http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16718/reviews/4144297
http://soundcloud.com/foe-mania
I do like the album and it's really enjoyable pop
but it does faceplant a few too many times to be anything other then 'good' lots of potential though
I take this back
besides Get Money this album is incredibly good!
J'aime bien l'album et c'est vraiment agréable pop
mais elle face plante quelques fois trop nombreux pour être autre chose que 'bon' - quoique beaucoup de potentiel
Je retire cette déclaration
d'ailleurs, Get Money - cet album est incroyablement bon!
Hey this is pretty good
Cold Hard Rock is excellent.
Cheers
Voice-wise she sounds heaps like Juanita from Waikiki and Howling Bells
I get stuck on moments/segments in songs/videos....
1.26-1.31 where she sings 'rock' going into the chorus is doing it for me right now. I've become a little bit obsessed with this song (although unfortunately the single was late last year - not sure how I missed it), I'm hoping it'll open up the album for me a little bit more, which I'm still not totally convinced by...
Whoa
I like this.
Hmmmm. Actually
maybe not so much. Oh well.
ERRORS - Have Some Faith in Magic
The electrotronica-sniffin' Scots on Mogwai's label return with their magnificent Field-rollin' take on 'sigh-fi'. http://open.spotify.com/album/0kDxXqy9PWfOTJ0QbIea97
i got excited there and thought new errors was on spotify already
*shakes fist at sean*
dick move, sean
oh
i didn't have it in my iTunes, so maybe it's premium only or maybe it was up by accident? We'll have a stream of it on DiS on Monday, how's that for an apology?
As of 31st January 2012
this is album of the year, so far, but it's fucking awesome
Controversial comment
I thought it was a little overrated
GUIDED BY VOICES- Let's Go Eat the Factory
Their best in years. Full of scrappy beauty and tunes which easily match their old greats.
Their best in years
in my opinion, it is
First in years
Some of Tobin Sprout's best contributions too
They make the album
Hectic Zeniths - Hectics Zeniths
Really great and enjoyable album. http://hecticzeniths.bandcamp.com/
Cheers, DS.
I'm enjoying this on first listen. A bit like Clams Casino, but tidier, shinier... er, yep...
Yep, it`s a bit good, I`ve pretty much had it on a loop all week. There`s a timeless quality to it as well.
Thread needs stickying
The Maccabees - Given to The Wild
Is actually fucking awesome, surprisingly enough.
It is bloody lovely.
I wrote some words on it here; http://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/?p=5858
I'm glad someone on here agrees with me :D
I hadn't seen any mention of it on here, so I assumed everyone either hated it or was ignoring it. And that's quite a good review you've written :)
got a good review on DiS
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16712/reviews/4144269
stream: http://open.spotify.com/album/2Z19PSCz8Yf2OsT3ZKRobn
gorgeous sounds
On my second listen now
Glimmer might be the prettiest thing I've ever heard!
It's a beautifully delicate record
nearly almost falls away but somehow just keeps going, something snatched at but not reached.
Very very very very very good.
just makes me want another foals record
Shearwater - Animal Joy
Like magnificent snowflakes falling importantly on the royal lawn, this might well fail at not being probably the best thing ever.
(I had actually listened to it when I made this post, btw)
They covered
The Rainbow by Talk Talk, didn't they? If i've got my bands right, it was magnificent. Will give this a listen.
Logged into DiS for the first time in ages
just to massively agree with this. Got the the sexy limited red vinyl 'Loser' edition. Totally gorgeous, I'm smitten.
Love, love this album.
I only got this a few days ago and I've had it on repeat pretty much constantly since
It's amazing.
of Montreal - Paralytic Stalks
and i haven't even heard it yet
I am wholly underwhelmed by the two tracks i've heard thus far.
dour percentage is fab
Its alright
False Priest was better. This album seems to be a continuation
DRO CAREY- Tusslin Underwater
I'm not really into my drumnbass/dubby sort of things, but jimitheexploder posted this up as a free download and it really rocks. Deep and heavy as they come. Sadly he has recently cancelled a tour due to depression, but this is well worth a listen.
black twig - paper trees
wedding present style guitar rhythms with a contemporary nordic flavour
http://soundcloud.com/blacktwigmusic
purchaseable from solitimusic.com
Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend
coming out on secretly canadian next week - others have described it as M83 crossed with beach house and george michael - i don't know, but i've enjoyed my few listens
snippet here
http://porcelainraft.com/2012/01/unless-you-speak-from-your-heart-2/
and here
http://porcelainraft.com/2011/11/strange-weekend/
Really looking forward to this.
He released some very promising EPs last year. Supporting M83 on their upcoming UK tour, too.
love the gone blind EP
looking forward to hearing this
surprised by how well this record keeps playing for me
may well up being a surprise end of year fixture.
i am such a fucking nerd.
Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory
Coming out end of the month. Liked the first album, some really good power pop tunes with witty lyrics. This one sounds much darker (I can definitely hear a spiderland-era slint influence in there) and far more awesome. Early AOTY contender???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X1URP5eg6I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SMwRWsj80g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQqtb4E57RY
i'd say it's more like shellac than slint
but yes, it's absolutely fantastic!
Loving this album so much
I feel it's going to get a shitload of listens this year.
They don't sound like either to me
OH
Probably because of their name, I always expected Cloud Nothings to be some floaty chillwave horseshite.
Now I know they sound like Shellac and Slint, I will definitely listen.
nice
but the second time round i listened to Spiderland instead. is it bad?
I don't like the way people are posting albums that they haven't even heard yet
GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!
Diagrams - Black Light
Early days but if you want some nice simple catchy and slightly dancey stuff in the vein of the likes of Friendly Fires you could do a lot worse. It's good
http://open.spotify.com/album/194vo6HbsyIMXnXYMAWFUl
Laura Gibson - La Grande
Stream of the album here:
http://www.npr.org/2012/01/08/144623414/first-listen-laura-gibson-la-grande?ps=mh_fl
Have listened to it lots already in the past week, but just seen her live tonight and finally got a physical copy of the album so that now I can continue listening repeatedly and get last.fm to acknowledge this for me. Lovely record.
The Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know
Scottish miserabilists ditch the post-rock and treat their bleak soundscapes with post-punk synths and drum machines. There's a bunch of downloadable and streamed tracks on their website http://www.thetwilightsad.com/
Field Music - Plumb
It's more Field Music! :D Again, check out the website for some tracks. http://www.field-music.co.uk/
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
so far.... Cancer 4 Cure is second.
Ani DiFranco - Which Side Are You On?
I've only had a couple of listens.... and I'm not a huge DiFranco fan but I'm liking this.
http://open.spotify.com/album/2ZqEWMOjYvNb6HW1yvzbr0
gtfo
Ani DiFranco is like one of the worst things to happen to music. Are you like 35 and alone? because if you are listening to Ani that's the assumption I have to make.
First Aid Kit - The Lions Roar
Great stuff. More of a fuller sound than The Big Black and The Blue. Conor Oberst on the closing track and I think Mike Mogis produced.
http://www.npr.org/2012/01/15/144966888/first-listen-first-aid-kit-the-lions-roar
Have a DiS review
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16763/reviews/4144359
Yeah it's a very pleasnt listen
good vocals and very well produced with some nice songs, it's nothing spectacular but at what it does it's ruddy well nice!
lyrics...
...this clunky should be buried in the mix. not perched on top. otherwise, nice enough.
Can't believe this is 2012
Seems so long ago. At first I really didn't like the Americana/Mike Mogis influence, listening to it now is pure bliss. I saw them this year at Golden Plains and they were amazing. This is definitely in my list.
Talk Less, Say More- England without Rain
havent posted in aaaaaages but my mates will be putting this out for free in a bit and it probably is going to be my favourite album of 2012 so I thought I'd come and enthuse.
http://soundcloud.com/records-on-ribs/sets/talk-less-say-more-england/
Clark - Iradelphic
Can download a superb track, Com Touch, from here:
http://warp.net/records/clark/new-album-iradelphic-download-mp3
Out 2nd April on Warp Records
Massively excited for this!
This thread is full of comments on the side
and albums no one has heard yet. Thought there was a format to follow. Think this happened last year too.
Chairlift - Something
Am really enjoying this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrM5SOGw9T8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsLWGiIeFk&feature=relmfu
it's half a really great pop record, tails off badly
Gonjasufi - MU.ZZ.LE
Produced by the man himself, it sounds like a filthy orchestra featuring a borderline-enlightened hobo and bits of old tat found at a car-boot sale. Not as good as A Sufi and a Killer, but then again, neither is pretty much anything else, and this is better than most of that.
http://emailunlock.com/warp-records/gonjasufi-nikels-and-dimes
Very suprising take
A Sufi and a Killer was such a sleek album, this is rough as hell.
More difficult listen but very rewarding in the end.
Grimes-Vision
this is one of my favourites so far this year...
it's a beautiful album full of hooks and gets better with each listen. I have a number of earworms going round my head from this the whole time. Just stunning.
I was really cynical about this album being soulless LDN hipster-electro wank
It's actually pretty good.
Few more proper listens
Really, really enjoying this. I think it's nailed on for a top five finish in my albums of the year.

Hospitality - Hospitality
Nice indie pop.
In the vein of Camera Obscura, apparently.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q699Ivz_S2U
Trust - TRST (available February 28, 2012 on Arts & Crafts)
Trust is Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski (Austra).
Formed in 2009, the Toronto-based duo released its first singles, "Candy Walls" and "Bulbform" in 2011.
"Tales of lust, wax, and erotomania carry along on a dense black vapor of speed, space and tears." Or, John Maus on the shoulders of Crystal Castles.
http://vimeo.com/34667198
http://vimeo.com/25353851
mixed bag
love Candy Walls. Elsewhere pretty average and self indulgent.
nothing average about that one
brilliant from top to finish and I dansed to it the whole year!
Dark pop heaven.
Blondes - Blondes
So we're allowed albums that have not been released yet yes?
Will include all the singles (which have been pretty awesome) and some new tracks. Plus some cool remixers (love to hear what Andy Stott will do.)
Really I'm just repeating whats on the Fact site.
http://www.factmag.com/2011/12/05/blondes-ready-debut-album/
TRST leaked this week. ;)
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4317919#r6509483
John Talabot: Fin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG7Mc_jDjuo
a glimmer of sunlight, beautiful stuff
... yada yada but fIN is without a doubt an early contender for electronic album of the year.
http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=10382
PULLED APART BY HORSES- 'Tough Love'
AWESOME! RADICAL!
Islet - Illuminated People
Properly fantastic and delivers on the promise of the EPs
http://islet.bandcamp.com/album/illuminated-people
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16751/reviews/4144330
Django Django - self titled
I know loads of people have gone for the Beta Band angle on this but it brings to mind Clinic's 'Internal Wrangler' too. Either way, it's high praise.
http://open.spotify.com/album/0TrTqqPR7VttCVUhULj0VG
One song
Only one song is good on that album, and its Default. Those guys rely on ambient vocals way too much
That, my friend, is complete nonsense.
It's the first immediate track for sure
Oh and Clinic have other good albums than just their first, Hammer15!
Francois & The Atlas Mountains - E Volo Love
Not much love on DiS for this, which is kinda surprising. Lots going on in this record. One of my highlights so far.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgLNMXXBwjc
Horrid Red - Celestial Joy
German-vocal synthy post-punk, with an 80s English bassy twist, OR SUTIN, idk, i'm not that good at explaining these things. If you like any kraut post-punk, or The Fall, or Joy Division, or The Cure, parts of this might appeal to you. I can't stop listening to it.
* May have been released overseas last year, and has been doing the rounds for some time, but released here last month, as far as i know.
http://open.spotify.com/album/6bWgziNZ9uWfSCQWEjnGuQ
fancy doing another albums of the year list mate?
been a good while
at the end of this year, that is
Trailer Trash Tracys - Ester
I am really enjoying this album at the present. Drawing lots of inspiration from Lynch I presume, but not a bad thing.
Quite a few tunes and lovely guitars in there like tracks 'You Wish You Were Red' and 'Candy Girl'.
Apologies
forgot to mention it's on Spotify. I could give you the link, but last time I tried, it was an epic fail. Use search :)
RM Hubbert - Thirteen Lost & Found
Incredible Scottish guitarist second album, has guest vocals from Aidan Moffat, Lass from Delgados and some other folk. Produced by Alex Kapranos (spelling? Franz Ferdinand fellow). Anyway, it's wonderfully soothing and exquisitely recorded. Give it a spin.
I just love
that Car Song - It's a great album, loving it. Beautiful guitar.
This is likely to be on my end of year list.
It's fucking magical.
that Sharon Van Etten album (Tramp) is...
the best thing I've heard all year by some distance.
Anything with
The Dessner brothers involvement gets my approval. Serpents and Leonard are brilliant.
Best thing about that album?
It gets better and better as it goes on IMO. I love albums that build and end strongly, and Tramp does.
Ulrich Schnauss & Mark Peters - Underrate Silence
Beautiful little album that forgoes any complexity for straight up easy listening, sometimes the atmospheric stuff is just too complicated to really soak in and get lost to but this is just simple and to the point & I really like it.
Pop.1280 - The Horror
Grimy Birthday Party-esque dirge. Lovely.
Gangrene- Vodka and Ayahuasca
Shigeto- Lineage
The Gesaffelstein remix of Blue Jeans is rather good
Attempting to fix the thread
Therapy? - A Brief Crack of Light
One of the most underrated bands of all time have delivered a storming 13th album.
Great hooks, lots of experimentation, monster riffs and some superb lyrics/song titles.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvrM3v6XXqk&feature=related
I like this^
Maybe not quite as much as Crooked Timber, but still quite a bit...
Anais Mitchell - Young Man In America
It's a stunningly beautiful album, far more stripped back then Hadestown but still ambitious in it's theme. Easily the best folk album to come out so far in my opinion & I can see this being one of my albums of the year.
Opposite Sex - s/t
I've been asked to write a review for this in NZ. Had a listen here http://oppositesex.bandcamp.com/ and i like it... odd but knida cool.
Tindersticks
The Something Rain. Great stuff - a real return to form.
I predict this album will blow everything else out of the water during this year
I love Cronin but
This is one of the worst DiS posts ever
Portico Quartet
Utterly sublime album
this really is sublime
gentle, groovy, serene. perfection!
Sleigh Bells — Reign of Terror
What a drop from their debut though
What are these twee, cheesy ballads about? Derek should do all the writing.
Errors- Have Some Faith In Magic
A beautiful, dream- like piece of work.
that's lovely
The Mark Lanegan Band
..always excellent but this new album is stunning, refreshingly gutteral, he bleeds rawk n'roll and dare I say it, it's soulful maaaaan!
Internet Forever - Internet Forever
It's excellent, isn't it? I know it's a band that's close to the board's own heart, but that change from the first track into 3D still gives me a massive grin.
Yeah, it's good.
wheyyyyy!
loving this
Memoryhouse - The Slideshow Effect
A different record from The Years Ep (though the last three songs bear some resemblance to the lazy ambience found there), this is a stirring effort. Detractors of Real Estate stay well clear, though I can here more of Beach House (and Explosions in the Sky with the chiming guitars and sound dynamics). A very solid set of songs that are, by some distant, my favourite of this year.
They've re-recorded 'Heirloom'
And it's nowhere near as good as the original version.
http://vimeo.com/17095566
I hate when bands do this :(
awesome indie pop The Chagrins - facebook.com/wearethechagrins - ZODIAK - youtube.com/watch?v=cGAyV8zDkxo
Dizzy Moths - Bed Bugs & Haunts
I think this is my favourite release of the year so far;
Review; http://bit.ly/xSqvza
It's kinda hazy, melancholic, DIY indie-pop from some kid in Seattle, but it's so fucking good. He should be huge just off the back of this.
My Best Fiend
Not so sure about this one yet, finding his voice a bit grating.
Check the thread title next time
seriously this edition has been a total failure
PERFUME GENIUS- 'Put Your Back N 2 It'
Doesn't have the sheer rawness of 'Learning', but it's a beautifully simple, redemptive and ultimately positive collection, building up from absolutely nothing. Hadreas' voice is as mystical and elegant as ever. Wonderful, wonderful stuff; someone who understands how to pare down and take away. Emotive music isn't about going all-out. Adele and the rest could learn a fucklot from him.
I can't get into this
there's an affectation that I can't get past. :(
I actually think this is a massive step up from the first one
I thought Learning was great, but this is close to a masterpiece.
Alcest - Les Voyages de L'Âme
Beautiful, shoegazey epic rock from France, with traces of black metal brutality and lovely church choir vocals in places.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSspeRHq-08
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCwGMLncumM
I was going
to post this in here. :)
Lofeye - The Road Is A River
twocirclesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-road-is-a-river
Not heard anything like this before, very good, interesting stuff.
Yeti Lane - The Echo Show
Loving this on first listening - love the slow-building opening track. Think I'll skip the unnecessary 30 second instrumental tracks when buying on emusic though. Out March 5th in the UK. Streaming currently at: http://thequietus.com/articles/08095-yeti-lane-the-echo-show-stream
This is such an excellent album!
just coming round to listening to it this week but can't stop playing it right now.
Ceremony - Zoo
If you like Fucked UP or Iceage be sure to check these guys out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIrEcxvOzYI
album streaming here
http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-ceremonys-full-feral-zoo-lp
gone soft
pretty shit this album
Stalking Horse - Specters
I'm reviewing it so can't say much other than... well... that!
Kap Bambino - Devotion
Incredibly distorted dirty synth music, similar to Crystal Casltes only a little more raw.
Julia Holter- Ekstasis
Absolutely all over the place yet totally focused. I'd be surprised if I hear many better albums this year.
Hmmm seems like something I really should check out
^ truly actually great
Sounded so much like Au Revoir Simone to me, I wondered if they were affiliated
Apparently not. Very nice record though.
Just listened to this....
A bit like Loreena McKennitt meets Bjork :)
Feorm - Feorm
Lovely and chilled out Krautrock/Psychedelia. http://feorm.bandcamp.com/album/feorm
The Men - Open Your Heart
very solid rock record. plenty of variety with good balence of aggression/ quieter more spaced out moments
Frankie Rose - Interstellar
Bloody lush.
Andrew Bird - Break It Yourself
Not much of a deviation from his other recent stuff, but I do much prefer this to the last one, even though that wasn't bad at all. Some really nice moments on it, especially Lazy Projector.
Here's the DiS review, where you can stream it. http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16847/reviews/4144563
I can't get into this one
I absolutely loved the one before that. Nothing seems to grab me, could be a grower though. :)
'Hole In The Ocean Floor' is an incredible track.
Willie B - Ichiban Sound in 3D
Amazing Dilla-esque instrumental hip hop from the occasional Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, SchoolboyQ, Ab-Soul) producer.
You can buy it for $9 here, and stream the first track (which isn't the best, to be honest) http://williebrown.bandcamp.com/album/ichiban-sound-in-3d
A better track (essentially just a loop, but what a loop) from it, here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39mpWl75r5g
Absolutely love the new Blood Red Shoes record.
Ministry - Relapse
Al Jourgensen hasn't grown old gracefully and isnt toning it down in his old age.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhFcYepyW2k
Well this is very interesting
did not know about that chap until last week but was mightily taken by that track :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-nULlfJDvk
I could not believe it was 20 years old!
I'll be checking the above pronto.
Napalm Death - Utilitarian
As above these 40 somethings have now even taken inspiration from John Zorn's Naked City
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-phN3_0IV1U
may just be the best thing they have ever done
to produce such a great album this far into their career, its ridiculous.
Soap&Skin - Narrow
It might be on the short side this 'mini album' is fragile, heart felt and bloody emotional but still has flourishes of an experimental edge. It's beautiful and contains a guaranteed classic and perhaps surprise hit in 'Wonder' and a fantastic take on 'Voyage Voyage'. Highly recommended especially for fans of Nico and Perfume Genius
i didn't...
...actually mean to 'this' this. i meant to reply and say that i was a little disappointed with the record after the glorious debut. ah well, looks like i've disappointed myself. again.
Yellow Ostrich - Strange Land
Quirky indie-pop, I guess? Not sure. Either way it's racking up a lot of ear time for me. Great tunes.
Getting into this
The new line-up really works wonders with the material.
Dirty Three - Toward the Low Sun
First album I've listened to from these guys. Gonna have to check out everything else.
DiS review: http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16850/reviews/4144570?recommended-records
WIXIW
watch the mystery viral add.......?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8Jid89ks64
Sleep Party People - We Were Floating on a Sad Song
Blood and Biscuits new european imports. Floats on the nice side of The Knife/Yeasayer.
http://open.spotify.com/track/71FFYHirREB8bTCdcVVCLQ
V much want to hear this
Will be on my listening list this weekend.
Lower Dens - Nootropics
Jana Hunter’s vocal is appropriately sullen here, perfectly adding to the doomy atmosphere that subtly builds up to some Cocteau Twins-esque passages as the song finally breathes out at its close.
Brilliant record.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyxzjF8IjE8
Love this
'Lamb' is the highlight for me but it's a completely beautiful record.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grnd9RTLOMw
Moonface with Siinai - Heartbreaking Bravery
Massive synthesisers, huge choruses, some motorik beats and more poetic ramblings, from the most prolific (and most fantastic) Spencer Krug et al.
Hit and Miss
I'm a huge Spencer Krug fan, but there's only a handful of standouts on this album (IMO).
Just heard it. I'm going to let my initial enthusiasm die down but I think it might be a bit of a classic.
This is worst album Krug has put out :(
I love Krug but his last few releases have been coming in with diminishing returns
The Men - Open Your Heart
Pretty amazing cross between rambling country-rock jams, experimental freakouts, driving krautrock instrumentals and straight-up alt-rock. I never listened to their first album so I came to this with no expectations and was blown away.
Album of the year so far for me, possibly
Internet Forever - Internet Forever

Indiepop, but with a massive, joyous cacophony of electronic wibbly bits thrown into the mix. I'm obsessed.
Ctrl+F > vague scrolling
worth posting again, in any case
Bear in Heaven - I Love You, It's Cool
Great sound, great tunes.
Slitghtly
left hankering for more after listening to it.
I don't think they've hitten their stride yet. Too much 80s throw back at times.
Man, do they know how to work a synth though ...
ok, I really like it now. This!
AU - Both Lights
I've only had it a day. But HOLY. SHIT.
Absolutely amazing!
great call
this is pretty spesh
What a rubbish
review on Pitchfork. Spot on appreciation on the Quietus though.
Great album. :)
Still trying to grasp the album as a whole
But my word, track two, 'Get Alive', is fantastic.
definitely the standout after the first few listens
'Epic' will go down as one of the finest opening LP tracks of 2012
Merchandise- Children of Desire
Honestly one of the best bands in the world right now and nobody knows about them. And the label is giving it away for free, so you have no excuse to not listen to it.
http://soundcloud.com/katorga-works/kw-016
http://katorgaworks.bigcartel.com/product/merchandise-children-of-desire-lp
so so good!
Isidore - Life Somewhere Else
This is so beautiful and under-listened. Its mostly indie but with a little ambience, electronic and folk.
It is the project of Jeffrey Cain (Remy Zero) and Steve Kilbey (The Church) so if you like either of those bands, check this out. But I would recommend to anyone as the songs are so great. I love the gentle vocals and intricate sound effects...
Reappearence is the best song but the whole album is available to listen to here:
http://soundcloud.com/communicating-vessels/sets/isidore-life-somewhere-else-1/
Man, 2012 is a fucking beaut so far, huh?
A trainwreck of a year so far for me
you hate life
I loved 2011...
I loved 2011 ...
but 2012 is it's equal, maybe even better. Some great 'guitar' albums have come out first quarter. I thought 2011 was a bit short of that to tell you the truth.
its equal ...
*red faced* ;)
I've been really out of the loop this year
but of the ten or so records I've heard, 8 would have made my top 20 last year.
2010 > 2012 > 2011
Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action at a Distance
Lockett's solo stuff is easily up there with Atlas Sound for me.
One the best finds this year for me.
For me
lockett pundt, with this release, Has just pissed all over the last atlas sound album.
noooooooooooo
They're both utterly brilliant - I think they've both pissed on the last Deerhunter album!
I'd never listened to Grouper or Tiny Vipers that much before, but this has piqued my interest considerably. Reminds me a bit of Cocteau Twins' collaboration with Harold Budd in how it works as an album...
delano smith- an odyssey
a wonderful album of deep house
Lee Fields and The Expressions - Faithful Man
Brilliant soul that'd hard to believe has been made this year.
The All-Seeing Hand - S/T
http://the-all-seeing-hand.bandcamp.com/
Sounds a little like Liars - Drum's Not Dead w/ a little bit of Thank You's Terrible Two and some electronics thrown in there. Really strange and intense (but still very pretty) psychedelia from NZ.
MAGNETIC FIELDS- Love At The Bottom of the Sea
It isn't their best, but it's a Magnetic Fields album- they're always a treat. 'Andrew In Drag' is one of my favourite singles this year. Lovely return to synths, and the usual twisted lovesongs. Well worth a spin.
ALABAMA SHAKES- Boys & Girls
Should be shit. Is not shit.
Pinkunoizu - 'Free Time'
seems to have snuck under a few people's radars - playfully experimental in a way that reminds me of a more 'Krautrocky' Beta Band / Flaming Lips.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF-nRzfyxhs ('Parabolic Delusions')
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmv8gYJ-ZXg ('Everything is Broken or Stolen')
'Death Is Not A Lover' sounds like Animal Collective doing delta blues
Actually the whole thing reminds me of Animal Collective. I know they can be used as lazy shorthand for anything that sounds a bit busy and experimental, but Pinkunoizu really remind me of them. Really enjoying this
Modern Blondes - Sorry!
get it here, for free
http://modernblonde.bandcamp.com/album/sorry
sorry, for pay what you like
at least a bag of chips
Circle of Ouroborus - Lost Entrance of the Just
by a landslide, so far this year. Pop. 1280 - The Horror in there too, with The Men getting alot of airtime too.
Locrian/Mamiffer - Bless Them That Curse You is a damn fine album, just need to absorb it more. Preterite - A Pillar of Winds was 2011, but doubt anyone has bothered with it.
Preterite
album is amazing. I love Menace Ruine too, but Pillars is very different. but yeah, 2011.
vatican shadow - kneel before religious icons...
from dominic fernow (aka prurient)...a grimy extension to prurients beat-driven release last year...nasty stuff...
stream here:
http://www.self-titledmag.com/2012/03/29/long-player-of-the-day-vatican-shadow-kneel-before-religious-icons/
Black Breath - Sentenced to Life
BB's second album is more thrash than their previous effort "Heavy Breathing", they've certainly shed a little of the Emtombed styling but kept that amazing guitar sound remains intact.
It's in the running for my top 5 metal albums of the year.
What are the others?
Not sure yet, it's only April!
I forgot about this
need to have a listen...
Stephen O'Malley & Steve Noble - St. Francis Duo
Blisteringly brutal riffage and hypnotic frenzied drumming.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDOFJJ62Ooo
Unsane - Wreck
Amp rep veterans it has all the elements you'd expect from a classic Unsane release.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ZQcpVt1w0&feature=related
yeah its one of the best albums of the year after the new torche album.
High On Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis
Mr Pike has turned it up to 11. You can picture him in the studio with his top off sweating to high heaven as he has just created another amazing riff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX4yy3TwdvM&feature=related
Blackest Lava - An Offering
Beautiful dark ambient stuff from a guy that also makes crazy fucked black metal/noise by the gallon. It's all free (pay what you like) too!
http://blackestlava.bandcamp.com/
Azusa Plane - Where The Sands Turn To Gold
Beautiful instrumental guitar work for any fans of Windy & Carl, Bardo Pond, Mark McGuire and anybody who loves stuff on Kranky (although this is on Rocket Girl). Tragic that the guy took his own life, but the double CD, MP3 collection, booklet and packaging are a great tribute.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3S1J8xh1Q8
Whirr - Pipe Dreams
Old school shoegaze. Nice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFWafcygWHk
volcano! - Pinata
Got this sent through recently and it's barely left my lugs since. Out in June on The Leaf Lable (who are having a grand old run of it at the moment are they not). They got 10/10 once on DiS back in the day I believe. This appears on it, having earlier been released as a single. Like a clangier, mathier Modest Mouse (people who know them better than I might chastise me for that - apologies)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov4TFOyTB0k
The Menzingers - On The Impossible Past
gravelly, punk rock done really good. Quite bitter sounding in places and some ace song writing. Bit Crazy Arm in places and mid-90s punk rock when Epitaph was really good (this is Epitaph as well, so it might be a return to good times) I dunno, I really like it. The artwork is shit though, don't let that put you off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnAFXMQbnc8
1. It came out last year
2. It's shit
As no one's mentioned it yet
Blunderbuss.
Module - Imagineering
http://module.bandcamp.com/album/imagineering
Beautiful and brilliantly produced Electronic masterpiece.
I like this a lot
<3
Does ANYONE like Black Dice Mr. Impossible?
I've only given it the one listen as yet
didn't feel it at the time, but might do in further listens.
No one has mentioned it here yet but
Sweet Heart Sweet Light by Spiritualized is a great album. It got a mediocre review on here but it has some really good tunes. Hey Jane and So Long You Pretty Thing are the obvious ones on first listen. Too Late and I Am What I Am are some personal favourites, anyone who is a fan of Ladies and Gentlemen should enjoy this album (all expectations aside)
RYAT - Totem
Brainfeeder debut from Bjorkalike beatsmith whose voice has an alien beauty that scrapes delightfully against a glitchy, glassy surface - for fans of: hallucinogens, dreadlocks, Daedelus, headphones, Hail to the Thief, Gazelle Twin, Flying Lotus, all that jazz. Might be my favourite Brainfeeder release yet.
http://soundcloud.com/factmag/ryat-howl
The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends
Classic Lips. Best heard with a pair of good headphones, occasionally surprisingly loud album with everything you'd expect. Surprising amount of depth, considering this album was meant to be a "gimmick".
What's most surprising is that, this works so beautifully as an album...
even though it's a collection of collaborations the band did last year.
I know it's only an EP
But Kindred by Burial blows most albums out of the water this year. Just absolutely gorgeous, and probably the best thing Burial has done, which is saying something.
Now, Now - Threads
My friend burned me a copy at the weekend and I'm instantly smitten, for fans of Tegan and Sara, and We-Have-The-Facts-era Death Cab.
Track from a live session - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP5Pu3o6rPA
it's incredible
it's the record of the year. I love it.
Phantogram - Nightlife
It's an EP, yes. But it feels like an album. Also it's fucking brilliant. Are we expecting an album this year, anyone?
http://open.spotify.com/album/6i4gCQ0S4CRdlKzIENSblF
Foreign Fields - Anywhere But Where I Am
They just changed their name from 'Flights' to 'Foreign Fields' and put the whole LP back up on their Bandcamp page.
It's the best thing I've heard all year, folky bon iver-esque thing of majestic beauty. You really, really, really should listen to this.
http://foreignfields.bandcamp.com/album/anywhere-but-where-i-am
This is excellent
Just bought the cd.
this makes me very happy.
I interviewed them a while back if you were interested in that;
http://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/?p=7221
This sounds great!
Nice one.
I asked nicely
and they gave me an unreleased track for a compilation I just put out. It's an instrumental but it's pretty stunning;
http://goldflakepaint.bandcamp.com/
Death Grips The Money Store
YES! :D
Orbital - Wonky
Good to have these gentlemen back and on form.
Wow, i didn't expect this album to be THAT good.
Miike Snow - Happy To You
I never see any love for these guys on the boards and they're completely ignored by indie sites and blogs but what's not to like when they're only a short hop, step and a jump away from Hot Chip?
thought their debut was EXCELLENT
loved it to bits! Heard this once but didn't seem as good, must go back to it.
Lapalux - When You're Gone
gorgeous R&B-infused electronica along the lines of Flying Lotus/James Blake/Kona Triangle etc. Very sexy music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyhzn5p2GkA
Cate le Bon - CYRK
only listened to it once all the way through but it was really nice.
Beach House - Bloom
Beach House does it again. "Teen Dream" was perfect, but this is coming in its way.
The melodies are melancholic, wistful and catchy, the production keeps getting better and better, too.
The biggest difference here is the addition of even more layers of pianos, organs and guitars, as well as more detailed and intricate drum parts. They still have their trademark "casio keyboard" synth drums sounds, so... overall, another great BH album.
Only just started listening to it,
but based on the first three tracks, I'm just gonna 'this' yr post already.
wasn't...
...expecting to like this nearly as much as i seem to be liking it...very nice indeed. proper swoon.
The bridge(s) in 'Lazuli'
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
KINDNESS- 'World, You Need A Change Of Mind'
Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet. Gorgeous, somehow shy clubtracks, but diminished, subverted clubtracks. 80s-influenced without being wanky. Includes 'Swingin Party', which is the best cover I have ever heard full stop.
Spooky, strange but weirdly warm and empathetic music. Skeletal and embracing all at once. Great stuff.
Lower Plenty - Hard Rubbish
http://soundcloud.com/special-award-records/sets/lower-plenty-hard-rubbish
Zammuto - Zammuto
Was always going to be a shoe-in for me, I'm a huge (and now sad) Books fan. But this album does not disappoint. Many of the old Booksian elements are there, but now far more focused towards 'traditional' song craft. I say traditional, but that's not very accurate. It's a very modern album, full of inventive and original sounds. More emphasis on vocals and percussion too.
And I even like the autotune. Who would've thought? This rewards with every listen, I absolutely adore it.
The Dirty Rich - Champions Hall

out on Westway Records 28th May 2012!!!
Polica Give You The Ghost
Lost In The Trees A Church That Fits Our Needs
Great shout
Never heard of this lot before, but really liking this album.
Yeah I only found them through browsing metacritic one day
they don't seem to get much media coverage unfortunately. Really good stuff.
The singer's mum took her own life and there are strings
which should give peeps an idea of what to expect but it's wonderful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IArudWKb_K4
Stanley - Animals With Amazing Disguises
Everyone should check this out - it's on Spotify. Big shout for these guys to be as good as the Phantom Band, there's loads of cool filmatic movie style music here. Seriously, probably knocking Django Django off the top spot for a debut for me. It's brilliant.
are these the guys who did 'Sandwiches and Tea'?
Because that's a brilliant song. Definitely buying this if so.
THE CRIBS- 'In the Belly of the Brazen Bull'
As furious and riffy as their best work, yet somehow more mature and heartbroken. A band hitting their stride.
Father John Misty - Fear Fun.
Francis Harris - Leland
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlOpJfFeTrQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z5trVFu7RY&feature=related
Foreign Fields - Anywhere But I Am
Really, really beautiful.
Take your pick here:

P.S. Previously known as 'Flights'
That's 'Anywhere But WHERE I Am"
oh hi
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4317919#r6722046
Only just got round to downloading this...
Really good, especially the 1st 3 songs.
Lower Dens - Nootropics
Once it takes hold of you...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyxzjF8IjE8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grnd9RTLOMw
Stephen Hummel - Meld
http://stephenhummel.bandcamp.com/
Gorgeous bit of Analogue Electronica. Covers a few styles within that realm[Electronica, Electro Pop, Techno, Ambient etc]but as always with chaps stuff it sounds personal and human.
This is a very fine record
Looking forward for the second part
*to
Carter Tutti Void - Transverse.
Dark and brilliant...loving it!
Boy Friend - Egyptian Wrinkle
Absolutely gorgeous thing.
Apparently Boy Friend are one original half of Sleep ? Over that went their separate ways before that band's first album.
They then did this. It variously reminds me of Warpaint, Julia Holter, Beach House and Sleep ? Over.
Really bloody great, it's on Spotify too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHtir0zqRQ4
I've just listened to the first disc
but it's great so far. Not really an album though and way too long to really take in in one listen.
Listened to the second disc now
and yeah it's really sick and amazingly consistent (I don't know the story behind it, have these tracks accumulated over years or what?) but there is just so much of it.
Just listening to samples from YouTube
glad I stumbled upon this post!
The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
Taken by surprise by this one. Less proggy than previous albums - Omar holds back on the brazen prog-guitar wankery. Might be better than de-loused for me, just works better as a whole. And yet, the songs are really varied.
Last two-three minutes of this...wow:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThiSqefRAzY&feature=related
Santigold - Master Of My Make Believe
don't think she's been mentioned yet. for some reason she seems to be a bit out of favor with the current critical consensus. not sure why. first record was ace, full of ace pop tunes. this record is also ace, full of ace, somewhat understated, pop songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIMMZQJ1H6E
ghosting season - the very last of the saints
my copy arrived on saturday morning, and i've listened to it 4 times since then, i really like it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsTn6mbkp4c
Black Swan - Aeterna
Evocative drone with some lovely choral flourishes. Available streaming in full here:
http://blackswan.bandcamp.com/track/aeterna-2012-album-preview
TIGERCATS- 'Isle of Dogs'
Alright, alright, it's indie-pop. But in its best, most sucrose-addictive form, clever and catchy without being mawkish. Great fun and gradually worms its way into you over the day, till you'll find yourself listening 2 or 3 times an afternoon.
You could have described 'Long Black Cars' by The Wave Pictures there.
Damien Jurado - Maraqopa
Goat – World Music
Sweet Lights debut album is one of the best I've picked up this year..
I heard the track 'You Let Me Down' months ago, so was really looking forward to the album being released. Then I heard Shai Halperin had done some early stuff with War on Drugs, so that whetted my appetite even more.
It is night and day from War on Drugs, but a very pleasant addition to the CD collection. Just have to bide my time until they tour now.
Motion Sickness Of Time Travel - S/T
Soothing and Psychedelic Ambient Electronic double album. I`ve only had one one listen to it but it blew my head off and chilled me out.
Need to check this
Woah wow IT'S GREAT
EL-P - Cancer4Cure
This album goes...
John Hopkins & King Creosote
Diamond Mine
I really enjoyed it anyway....
balls.
just realised that it was released last year, i've only just got around to listening to it now though... apologies.
Choir of Young Believers - Rhinegold
yes!
it's like a sci-fi in the guise of a spaghetti western. Firefly, soundtracked by Mew, or something, but more cheekbones-ey than that suggests.
spaceships flying over Scandinavian tundra at dawn, whilst a young space wrangler sings out into the plains, eyes of piercing clarity, voice bold and angelic.
Sold
Advance Base - A Shut-In's Prayer
http://advancebase.bandcamp.com/
I recently read someone describe Owen Ashworth as the best lyricist working today, and while that might be a slight exaggeration, he's certainly great. Any fans of his later CftPA stuff will love this.
you know if i can buy the LP of this anywhere + get a dl straight away?
I'm not certain
I didn't want to wait for the European release so I bought the download from Orindal.com weh it came out in the US and I'll get the LP when I can get hold of it in a week or two. That's silly, I'm paying for it twice, but I'm a bit of a megafan of Owen Ashworth. I know if you buy the LP from http://www.anost.net/Musik/CD/CD/Advance-Base-A-Shut-In-s-Prayer.html you'll get a download but I can't see anywhere saying it's instant - you might have to wait for a code in the packaging.
DZ Deathrays - Bloodstreams
are where it's at. Probably my favorite album this year so far!
Mark Mcguire & Charles Berlitz - Inner Tube
Actually bought this for my boyfriend and have ended up listening to it a lot myself and loving it.
Its like some 90s surfer concept record thats really child and a nice listen.
Its well good.
http://soundcloud.com/experimedia/inner-tube-mark-mcguire
Guillemots - Hello Land!
One of four albums released this year, if the rest are this standard the inevitable best of will be pretty special!
Vijay Iyer Trio - Accelerando
Mixture of original compositions and interpretations of other things. Here's his interpretation of Flying Lotus's "mmmhmmm" cos I know all you hipsters dig Flylo. It's not the best thing on the album by a stretch but anyway:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti_P4_Fhovs
This album's some great mothafunky shit.
I put most of these so far on a playlist
well, the ones with a decent amount of this's anyway...
http://open.spotify.com/user/hayles83/playlist/2CLaNgr4oZvMNu0yQ382zt
The Hundred in the Hands - Red Night
It’s on Warp, produced by Richard X and veers between sounding like Broadcast on a hot day and astronauts drilling into dying stars. Pretty much what I wanted the School of Seven Bells record to be.
http://soundcloud.com/vonpip/the-hundred-in-the-hands-keep
The Pirate Ship Quintet
The New Pirate Ship Quintet Album 'Rope for No-Hopers' Is Out!
It has recieved rave reviews in the music press:
Track of the week -The Silent Ballet
9 out of 10 -Montreal Mirror
90% -Metalrage
"The Pirate Ship Quintet have clearly spent their time away perfecting their skills. Every note here feels perfectly placed, every hit necessary and every single second played and produced with an attention to detail that seems almost surgical. This is definitely a grower, enjoyed most when given your full attention and listened to through good headphones. Believe me, you’re in for a real treat."
-Beard Rock
"Not only is the music itself just fantastic, but everything on 'Rope For No-Hopers' is played virtuosically, the sound is raw and the album artwork is beautiful (...) everyone who is even slightly interested in this kind of music must listen to this album." "Not only is the music itself just fantastic, but everything on 'Rope For No-Hopers' is played virtuosically, the sound is raw and the album artwork is beautiful (...) everyone who is even slightly interested in this kind of music must listen to this album."

Gemma Hayes - Let It Break
Was really not expecting to love this as much as I am. I really enjoyed her debut album back in 2002, but never listened to anything of hers since then for some reason. But this album is just so lovely. Might have to listen to what else I've missed of her.
mewithoutYou - Ten Stories
Never been a huge fan up to this point, but will have to revisit the earlier albums. Ten Stories is great!
few JAGs creeping in...
Public Image Ltd - This is PiL
Yeah, I went there. Striking return to form for me, making Wobble/Levine's milking of Metal Box seem almost luddite.
Daniel Land & The Modern Painters - The Space Between Us
Brilliant follow up to Love Songs For The Chemical Generation
Eyes Wide Shut is a glorious shimmering Shoegaze/Dreampop anthem.
Light Asylum - s/t
That voice. Dark, synthy aggressive. Much love ?
http://open.spotify.com/album/20QPcWwH6tJvFLQXJYumrT
Liars - WIXIW
Reposted from above (which lacked the band and was posted two months ahead of release). Cracking record.
struggled...
...with previous LIARS releases, but this record is a deep, dark and thrilling listen.
Sigur Ros - Valtari
No mention of this yet? It'll take a while before I decide how it compares to their other albums, but I'm really enjoying it so far/ have had it on repeat most of this week.
KiloWatts - Acceptitude
Brilliant, complex and hugely enjoyable Electronica album. http://shop.kilowattsmusic.com/album/acceptitude
A Place to Bury Strangers — Worship
Didn't quiet like the EP... but would sure listen to this.
It's different
More adventurous, perhaps, but a bit patchier than the last albums for that very reason.
I suspect that it may end up being not that well received/reviewed, because it's not quite (imo) to the standard of Exploding Head, and some songs definitely veer from the APTBS sound that we know and love. But it's still a pretty great album. Then again, I thought the EP was great, especially the first 3 tracks.
Killer Mike - RAP Music
Simply the best hip-hop album in years.
^ This to the album
but not the accompanying sentence.
Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
I can see where people have had a problem with this in that there are probably too many interludes for the number of songs, but the songs are really, really good. Remind me a little bit of Why?, but that's maybe the nasal voice more than anything. I'm excited to see where these go from here.
This should have way more '^this's
I also thought of Yoni Wolf when hearing it for the first time. This will be (should be) on AOTY lists for sure.
LAUREL HALO- Quarantine
OK, so it's great. Her vocals are a bit controversial but I like her tinny, squeezed tone rather than your standard autotuned multitracked voice. This is oddly danceable and really interesting, but there's something quite horrible just beneath the surface- it's as if all structure has been sucked from these compositions, as if they're trying to negate themselves.
Listen to it now.
unsettling and addictive
Not sure how I feel about your aggressive imperative there
But agree that this is a very good record. It's also a lot more fun and accessible than a lot of the write-up/hype around it seems to be suggesting.... experimental, yes, but still very much a pop LP at heart.
Exitmusic - Passage
I love this record!
Christ man. I thought you liked rock and stuff.
This appears to be like Turin Brakes with more synths. :(
Pariso- Nothing Beyond Everything After is a good kick in the ears
I have high hopes for run,WALK!'s debut/only LP.
WE CUT CORNERS - Today I Realised I Could Go Home Backwards
I need something to aspire to setting fire to
(continued)
Debut album from Irish duo. Short urgent songs that pack a lyrical punch. From fast-paced to mellow, beautiful sound is created from only two instruments. I would definitely recommend checking out their videos too.
http://wecutcorners.bandcamp.com/
Japandroids - Celebration Rock
I didn't click with their debut when it came out but I decided to give this one a go on Spotify and it's so fucking good. Really energetic, sharp garagey psych rock, Going to get this and their self titled again.
No Singles is great as well, mate.
I prefer it to the debut album.
iliketrains
no mention of their new album?
had gone off them over the years but this new one is quite possibly the best thing they've ever done & totally reignited my interest in them
Agreed...
Great Album, keep going back to it.
KEATON HENSON- 'Dear'
He's not *quite* the new Jeff Buckley, as some have claimed, but it's a fucking heartbreaking record in places if I'm honest. Raw, bare but still with enough to it above the skeleton to make it genuinely beautiful. Well worth your time.
Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland - 'Black is Beautiful'
not mentioned yet?? WELL IT'S GREAT
New Hype Williams on Hyperdub. Has taken a while to settle in but now I'm never looking back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ECMGF00WYc
DIIV - Oshin
http://soundcloud.com/spunkrecords/sets/diiv-oshin-sampler
Another great indie pop/rock release @ Captured Tracks.
Soon as I heard it..
..Doused immediately became the frontrunner of my most favourite track of 2012 and until today has not been dislodged. A great, great album!
Hot Chip - In Our Heads
One of those albums that, for me anyway, just feels instantly loveable. Presumably this will cement their place as one of the finest UK bands of their era, if that somehow wasn't already the case.
I agree
It seems as if all of their albums were building up to this one
Torche - Harmonicraft
Fist-pumpingly awesome sludge-pop brilliance.
What!?
Their worst album yet. Try Meanderthal.
Incorrect, best album
Claire Birchall — PP
http://clairebirchall.bandcamp.com/album/pp
MOAR FUZZ!
Check out the fucking acesome cover of Manic Monday.
Black Twig- Paper Trees
Came out in January- every time one of the songs comes up on shuffle, I look to see who it is and say "wow that one's good, too"
Ray Gibson
Like Bon Iver, Sigur Ros or Radiohead, then you will love Ray Gibson – a new act to hit the scene with the backing of Itchy Pig Records.
With his debut album out September and numerous TV & radio appearances planned including Jools Holland, BBC Breakfast, Dermot O'Leary plus some great gigs planned for the next 12 months.

Beachwood Sparks - The Tarnished Gold
Really beautiful record, their first for 11 years
Mystical Sun - 26000
Deeply layered, unique and immersive Electronic/Psychedelic album. Exists in it`s own space, outside and of time and trends. Needs about 20 listens to really appreciate it though. Real 10 out of 10 stuff.
Future Of The Left - The Plot Against Common Sense
Come on, this me, fuckers.
YOU'RE NOT JUST A PUNCH
-LINE NOW
It's not clean, it's not healthy but it is good fun
The Tallest Man On Earth - There's No Leaving Now
His melodies and guitar-work just blow me away - anyone else?
EL-P, Cancer For Cure
His first release on Fat Possum and it's pretty raucous. First single 'Full Retard's a winner...
Good review too http://drownedinsound.com/releases/17027/reviews/4144979
Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse
http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-ty-segall-bands-gnarly-full-slaughterhouse
Just a super good scuzzy garage-rock album replete with guitar wigouts and a guy yelling "FUCK THIS FUCKING SONG!" etc.
I like pre language by disappears
was wild flag this year or last? or thee satisfaction?
Wild flag
was last year and Theesatisfaction this year.
Martyrdod - Paranoia
Raging.
Twin Shadow Confess
As good as the debut.
OK so i'm one track in and don't want to show my hand too early
But this is ace. Everything about this record put me off of listening to it (everyone talking 80's revival and the SHOCKING cover)
If the rest is as good as the first track then we have a serious AOTY contender.
Yep
The whole thing is great. :)
Echo Lake - Wild Peace
I've been listening to this constantly since I got it, it is a beautiful and lush record and the first one I have truly loved this year. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Levon Vincent - Fabric 63
Guy Geber - Fabric 64
Cheers.
The Amazing - Gentle Stream
Just been listening to it all afternoon, they have in my mind asimilar qualities to Midlake.
Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan
An album that’s beautiful for its simplicity, as much as it technically remains a bit of a headfuck. Still can’t tell whether they’re tweaking the rules or genuinely diving into their own peculiar mushroom cloud of creativity, but either way, this is obviously their best one yet and anyone who disagrees is probably a bit annoying.
...at the risk of being a bit annoying
I'm finding it hard to get very excited about this.
I quite like it. It's fine.
But... I dunno
I don't like negativity in these threads generally, but...
I really found this unbearable. 'Gun Has No Trigger' is clearly the awesome pop single on this one, which I liked, but the rest... I just hate it. Vying with Django Django for worst 'hyped' record of the year.
maybe not the best one yet, very good but
less...
...head fucky than Bitte Orca. Lovely summer weirdness.
I agree
with the best yet bit.
PLVS VLTRA - Parthenon
Great pop record. I can't help playing that first song 'Flowers to Bees' - brilliant!
Mothlite - Dark Age
very much my type of thing, dark - ish lyrical widescape synth pop.
Nothing But Noise - Not Bleeding Red
Double album of Analogue Tangerine Dream style inner space Electronic music. Splendid.
Trouble Books - Concatenating Fields
Surprised this wasn't bigger on here. Euphoric layering of electronics with simple guitar and vocal melodies, reminiscent of M83 but with more ambient subtlety. Absolutely loving it.
Lurk Underneath: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dZbwZApXYw
Dead Bee in a Golden Bowl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0HBAHwViOU
Frank Ocean - channel ORANGE
Hai guys, not sure if any of you have heard of this one, but it's by someone called Frank!
Really feeling this
Looking forward to seeing him at Beacons Festival
Pretty sure this is a reissue
And they haven't reformed because James Stinson's been dead for 10 years. Good album though, as is part II.
Panopticon - Kentucky
A mix of Cormorant-esque black metal and banjo-led appalachian country. I think it's a concept album about maltreated coal miners as well. Sounds ridiculous but it's ace.
Port St. Willow - Holiday
I thought the lack of song structures would hold this back...but it has a real emotional resonance and lovely instrumentation. If things like Low and The Antlers don't float your boat then...don't check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UikdZ3D8TOY
...and if you're tempted to here the whole thing;
http://portstwillow.bandcamp.com/
this is grand, cheers.
Purity Ring - Shrines
Lives up to the hype - a great debut, creates a little world unto itself
http://www.npr.org/2012/07/15/156553168/first-listen-purity-ring-shrines
Wow
This is fantastic. Definitely one for the Grimes fans...
I'd argue that this is for
everyone that tried to like Grimes but were continually left disappointed.
Purity Ring manage to do everything right that Grimes doesn't.
I don't know, both albums are pretty much on an even pegging for me right now.
I think they're both amazing. Personally I can't even imagine anyone *trying* to like Visions, it just seems like such an effortlessly addictive pop rush. Shrines is arguably the more 'difficult' one of the two I'd say.
Got into Grimes much earlier than Purity Ring
And I prefer the former, although Shrines is also great. The highs on Visions (and its variability) put it on top for me.
came back to see if this was here
bloody excellent album
Posting because
this is really good
Arrange - New Memory
It's glorious. For fans of ambient / electronic vocal stuff, it's slow and minimal, but uplifting and rather Tim Hecker-ish.
get it free an bandcamp.
http://arrange.bandcamp.com/
Man, you have no idea how much I tried to get people into Plantation on here in 2012
Liked my first few listens of this too.
Loved Plantation... Thanks for the heads up!
Helium Robots - Voltopia
For fans of electronica with haunting vocals and loads of layers. Nice video too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLAOEz0lH6Q
Glow Kit - s/t
Short, punchy and Danish
http://open.spotify.com/album/6IWcfcAEOBgUGgTDVaNIJJ
Pat Metheny Unity Band
a real corker! Epic playing!
Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...
this one came out of nowhere for me. a powerful, soulful, discordant wonder.
took me a good while to grow to it
It's pretty good
But I want it to be Joanna Newsom, because there's a similarity, and it isn't :(
Citizens! - Here We Are
slightly stomping indie pop. If you like bands like Mother Mother.
The singer has an amazing voice!
This is really, really good
Like, I'm still on my first listen and I'd already say this is my favourite debut of 2012. Hard to describe, other than to say it's pop gold.
Shame they committed the double band name crime of one-world plural AND an exclamation mark...
*word obvs
Golden Retriever - Occupied with the Unspoken
Squiggly synths and bass clarinet coalescing slowly into crazy, multi-layered (retro-)futuristic beauty. Listen if you like Panabrite, Emeralds, Rene Hell etc.
Strange
the new album is not even on their Bandcamp yet. :(
I don't know if they'll be selling it through Bandcamp
'cause it's on Thrill Jockey not self-released like (I think) their other ones. I could be talking out of my arse though.
Hot Water Music - Exister
awesome gravelly punk rock
Coo Woo - Love Exposure (free album download)
*CIRCUIT SWEET*
"Coo Woo, pronounce cool world, have released that perfect record to accompany a good mood. Love exposure in its entirety provides fun and harmonious compositions. More importantly each orchestration offers an addictive impression. Tracks you'll need to hear more of; a long lasting perfect and illustrious pop rock creation. Maintaining their punk angst within their lyrics yet mixing lo- fi efforts with racy beats. The indie pop band hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin- have focused on their instrumentation and their complimenting vocals to create a strong effort and one which won't go unnoticed."

Soon there's going to be more '80s-influenced records than '80s records
dEUS - Following Sea
There last few albums have been pretty lackluster, but this is surprisingly memorable on repeat listens.
The Pre New - Music For People Who Hate Themselves
Gemma Ray - Island Fire
Race Horses - Furniture
Ex-Radio Luxembourg band Race Horses make music that’s smart and feisty - like the Maximo Park of 2012, and a whole load better than that prospect sounds - with heaps of joyful key changes, dead-on choruses and the kind of bizarro indie quirks that continue to make Field Music awesome.
Best guitar-indie record of the year so far.
like the Maximo Park of 2012
Stopped reading there.
OK.
For the benefit of anyone that made it a further 9 words: http://soundcloud.com/racehorsesmusic/race-horses-mates-1
OBSESSED
with this; http://kissedherlittlesister.bandcamp.com/
I described it as Flaming Lips drunkenly jamming with Why? The horns are majestic, it's just perfect and it's free.
Start here, fall in love, then get the rest; http://kissedherlittlesister.bandcamp.com/track/i-aint-got-a-friend
100x this
Brilliant stuff.
dodgy name tho
The Pheromoans - Does This Guy Stack Up?
http://soundcloud.com/upset-the-rhythm/the-pheromoans-im-a-you-know
The Fall meet Joy Division under a bridge to have existential breakdowns and lager.
SAMPLE LYRIC: “I want a puppy, a loft extension and a threesome, and silver shoes and preferably a Mercedes / Because I am entitled, it was decreed.”
Matthew Dear - Beams
utterly mesmerizing record, i'm in love
listening to the only track available right now for streaming
.. really good. Such a poster boy too!
Sorry, there's Eearthworms and Headcage
available too.
Really into this at the moment
One of this year's keepers. Catchy as hell and great production.
Baroness - Yellow/Green
A pretty fantastic 3rd (4th too?) album. Not as heavy as their previous albums, but the songs remain consistently brilliant. A nice evolution *braced for obligatory double album scepticism*
UNSUSTAINABLE
Muse - The 2nd Law
Unsustainable > OK Computer
I'd love if the album was somehow brilliant now
8/10
wp sean
Foxygen
Take The Kids Off Broadway is amazing.
Odyssey - Music For Subway
Beautiful double album of pure Analogue Electronica. http://odysseyofficial.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-subway-symphony-for-analogues
Ash Borer's new one came out yesterday (I think)
and it's pretty great. Got a very favourable write-up on Pitchfork this morning too which'll hopefully get them a few new fans.
Jogging - Take Courage
New album from ex-Richter Collective band.
Maybe a bit more aggressive than the first album but still loads of hooks.
Produced by Chris Common (These Arms Are Snakes)
http://jogging.bandcamp.com/album/take-courage
Four Tet - Pink
mmmmmmm Four Tet
some very nice moments
and the songs sound much better in non-vinyl-source
its sweet as expected
Six Organs of Admittance - Ascent
mmmm Six Organs. Way heavier and jammier than other SOoA stuff I've listened to. Almost wish I smoked loads of weed to further appreciate it's stoner psych radness.
Slow & Steady by The Middle Ones
is simple and beautiful
Animal Collective - Centipede Hz
An absolutely beautiful clusterfuck of an album.
i'm loving every second of this. so much more fun than MPP.
swans - the seer
no other album released this year is even in the same league
Man, this album is GOOD.
Everything I didn't like about other Swans stuff I'd listened to (some silly lyrics, over-the-top bleakness, feeling alienated by the music) is gone. It's a dark album but it has moments of epiphany where everything comes together and is sort of ecstatic. Michael Gira still sounds far from friendly but the lyrics (from what I can hear) seem to be more about absolution and the like than disheartening/nihilistic statements. It has some fucking monster riffs on it too (especially towards the end of the 30+ minute title track). The dronier pieces (e.g. A Piece of the Sky) are really deep and enveloping as well (probably something to do with Ben Frost's involvement), they don't seem token like on some other similar releases. Overall I guess it's simultaneously bleak but in a way happy as fuck.
Bloc Party — Four
Definitely the best thing they've done since Silent Alarm.
That 3x3
still leaves me quite hot and bothered. Kele, contender for most eargasmic yelp this year.
Royal Headache
Soulful garage pop nuggets from the Antipodes.
girls is my fav song from this year
so so catchy and fun
like Sam Cooke backed by the Sonics
genius.
Holy Other - Held
really beautiful album of ambient/witch (lol) textures that feels like a walk home through the city at night. fans of purity ring will love this, though it's less poppy than that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cOxnL7_zhk
note: stole that description from his bio
because it sells it better than i can
The xx - Coexist
Many things have carried over from the debut; the sparseness, melancholy, cringeworthy lyrics. Ot is true there is also a progression of sorts, with more input from Jamie xx
But really I've enjoyed this because it reminds me of first hearing XX when everyone was caught up with it. There was hype but it wasn't overplayed, and music for the early hours wasnt cliched. This album is arguably as good as that experience.
Jens Lekman - I Know What Love Isn't
Predictably wonderful, of course, but this really is Jens at the top of his game. You'll laugh, you'll cry, etc.
On my third listen now and...
I'm calling this album of the year territory. Classic stuff.
http://pitchfork.com/news/47663-stream-jens-lekmans-i-know-what-love-isnt-in-full/
Fix thread
.
Magic Trick - Ruler of the Night
Tim Cohen of the Fresh & Onlys
Groundislava - Feel Me
An exceptional album, know nothing about this guy but it's really good stuff. Chilled IDM/electronic. All killer too, and some great vocal performances
http://www.facebook.com/groundislava
http://open.spotify.com/album/673jQB0uzRjhcC37jCO71s
i've been enjoying some of this album
bit hit and miss though
The Magnetic North - Orkney: Symphony of the Magnetic North
just listening to this, just spellbinding. I did not realise this was a side project from Erland Cooper.
http://open.spotify.com/user/inkjetlakes/playlist/1awJxuu0msHHWZhfw1SbPN
Marriages - Kitsune
Atmospheric, perfect blend of melody and noise. Think Throwing Muses + Cocteau Twins.
Witxes - Sorcery/Geography
Haunting and sad sounds from the Black Lodge.
http://witxes.bandcamp.com/album/sorcery-geography
Aesop Rock - Skelethon
Incredible album, and one that greatly rewards repeated listening
Has slowly become one of my absolute favourites of the year.
Michiru Aoyama - About Alice
ambient/drone/shoegaze. very good, if you're a fan of any of those genres this is essential.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiOCPyowfco
^ this track isn't on the album but it's all i could find
thank you
liking this lots!
i know it was mentioned way upthread and i'm late to the party
but that john talabot LP is so fucking good
Screaming Females - Ugly
Winhill/Losehill - Swing of sorrow
Swedish pop, and for a debut it's promising a lot.
This is gorgeous
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oGGqvSO0gk
Wild Nothing - Nocturne
Took a few listens but the songwriting here is even better than Gemini...
Really up there
for understated power and elegance with Lotus Plaza this year.
I'll put Diiv in the same bag - brilliant but you'll never know it on first listen, well you get an inkling. It's so easy on the ear, it glides past. Then you stop and really listen, then it's 'well, I never ...'.
Cat Power - Sun
wasn't sure at first...
...but like a weird friend its really growing on me
fix thread
Really enjoying
the Erika Spring EP. Not perfect at all, but definitely worth a listen.
for heavier garage punk stuff
i've loved terry malts and heavy times
An addition to Disclosure Album
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151151264752332
this is a propos of nothing but my prurient imagination
but I really want to start a joke account called Moles_UTI
Two Door Cinema Club
Two Door Cinema Club is definitely worth the listen. The new album "Beacon" is so awesome. Check out their single, "Sleep Alone." http://bit.ly/OXUtUJ
lol
Pilotpriest - Origonal Motion Picture Soundtrack
http://pilotpriest.bandcamp.com/ I really enjoyed this album, a mate of mine put me on to it, only $0.99 too. Manhunter is the stand out for me.
Divine Fits
New New Wave.
Menomena - Moms
If you care for this band at all, it's not going to disappoint.
Wild Nothing - Nocturne
Hated it on first listen. That was two weeks ago, I just listened to it three times in a row. It's wonderful.
New artist
At least I think he is? "Draft" from London - he dropped an EP at midnight this morning, I cannot stop listening: www.draft.uk.com
Apparently he's signed to ThreeSixZero Group too, which is pretty impressive given their artist roster. Secretive guy though, can't find any info!
Futexture - The Science Of How Things Unfold
Very ace, trippy, playful and Imaginative Electronica album. Name your price DL as well. http://futexture.bandcamp.com/album/the-science-of-how-things-unfold
Baltic Fleet - Towers
Sounds like John Carpenter, Neu, New Order & The Horrors jamming in a basement in Manchester
Cult of youth - Love Will Prevail
Punk-folk finally pays. Gonna catch em live in London or Brighton soon.
Earlimart - System Preferences
Best since Everyone Down Here? Probably.
Never heard them before
Sounds like Sparklehorse in places, nice
Title Fight - Floral Green
really, really loving this, like, can't stop listening to it, inventive pop-punk/hardcore:
http://soundcloud.com/sideonedummy/sets/title-fight-floral-green/
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes
Somehow managed to live up to the ridiculous hype. I haven't stopped listening to this, it may not be album of the year (it's definitely in the running) but it's easily the most re-playable album of the year for me so far. Not as in-your-face as Cosmogramma, and in parts reminds me of Los Angeles, it's a really nice more chilled-out summation of his work so far.
Make sure you listen to loud or through head-phones, there's a lot going on under the surface, which is probably what you've come to expect from FlyLo anyway.
never really got on with cosmogramma
but this is excellent
Ellio - Trillions
stumbled across this little gem, the dudes first release ever i believe. definitely for fans of flying lotus and the like, but its not really like anything ive heard before. this guys gonna be big so definitely check it out so you can say you were one of the firsts!
http://soundcloud.com/elliomusic/sets/trillions/
Golden Fable
THEY'RE SUPER.
How to Dress Well
Have lived with this long enough now. Genuinely believe it is superior to Love Remains, not just in production values. A lovely, heartfelt record, the second half in particular ("World I Need You..." onwards) is spectacular.
This thread seems to be missing some of the more popular releases (i.e Grizzly Bear, that's another good one). I think people are too eager to champion lesser acts, so this thread doesn't really read as an accurate compilation of the best music in 2012).
Tame Impala - Lonerism
superb but should not release an album like that in october, missed the summer trade
Loon Choir - Fire Poems
Pretty good stuff. Canadian band. Very nice.
http://open.spotify.com/album/5eimBxKdweeuebUfQz0a2A
Eoforwine - Illumination
melodic noise ambient, strange, but not bad..
http://eoforwine.bandcamp.com/album/illumination
Negative Pegasus - Looming
http://soundcloud.com/smalltown-america/sets/negative-pegasus-looming-1
argh i didn't say anything
I don't know much about them 'cept they're from brighton, they're on Smalltown America, they describe themselves as “a blend of Daft Punk rhythms, shamanistic stomps and swamp-rock Creedence licks” and the album is bluddy great.
Sun Airway - Soft Fall
... Aptly opening for M83 at the moment.
In a landscape of collapsed beats, humming of the life that springs up from underneath, Soft Fall takes you on frosty morning walks through the woods where twinges of psychedelic light escape through the spaces between the leaves. It's Versailles in audio form: grand and beautiful, ornate and complex, surreal and classic all at once.
Hated Soft Fall
flaccid wank
BAD BOOKS new record
is fucking excellent
http://consequenceofsound.net/2012/10/stream-bad-books-bad-books-ii-cos-premiere/
godspeed you! black emperor - allelujah! don't bend! ascend!
initial doubts aside, it really is a fantastic album. i'd like a few more new tracks on it. but after a few listens i've really grown to like it
Ethernet - Into the Woods
Droney sleepy time Ambient/Ambient Techno. http://tamarackmusic.bandcamp.com/releases
Bob Mould- Silver Age
Great 'return to form' loud guitar album
Tall Ships - Everything Touching
their debut is finally out! Doing Falmouth proud.
http://bsmrocks.bandcamp.com/album/everything-touching
'Books' is the track of the fucking year as far as I'm concerned
I notice there are two versions, and the (presumably newer) album one has gone for the 'Wake Up' style oooohs. Which one is better? I'm not sure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUnDlBL13cg
The whole thing's on Spotify now.
no mention of Shackleton - 'Music for the Quiet Hour / The Drawbar Organ EPs'?
Pretty great you guys
What with this and Swans it's a GOOD YEAR for mega massive 2hr+ orgasmo extravaganzas
Max Richter - Four Seasons Recomposed
Previously, I hadn't really liked what I'd heard of Four Seasons...but this is Richter all over. Exhilirating piece of music.
Just noticed Graham Coxon's A&E isn't in here
what the fuck, it's brilliant. Prefer his solo stuff to much of Blur. Great album.
Listen on Grooveshark
http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Recomposed+By+Max+Richter+Vivaldi+The+Four+Seasons/8235109
(Doesn't seem to be on Spotify yet)
why? Mumps etc.
Hammock - Departure Songs
All I wanted from the new Hammock album was something that hurts to listen to, in the best possible way. Post-rock, emotional buildups, NOT just reverby guitar with repetitive loud cymbal hits like so much wanky post-rock these days). They added a string section and expanded their sound so much.
I've had to turn it off several times because it hits my heart too much.
RIYL emotions. Ok ok. M83, Helios, film scores, early Sigur Ros.
Tall Ships ~ Everything Touching
Best debut album I've heard in ages. I had such high hopes for it and it's lived up to them.
I reviewed here and there is a full album stream too. The last track is all kinds of wonderful.
http://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/album-review-tall-ships-everything-touching/
Cracking album.
01 - Plate Tectonics (4:54)
02 - Snow (Pure Lust Remix) (4:03)
03 - Chemistry (Teej Remix) (4:18)
DUN DUN DUNNNN
I'm one 'e' better than that knob twiddler.
Yppah - Eighty One
Summery electro-shoegaze hop. Utterly gorgeous
Ctrl+F's gone right out the window huh
helio sequence
Negotiations.....delivers massively with repeated listens.
Divorce's self-titled debut
A wild, filthy animal of a record.
Dinosaur Jr - I Bet on Sky
fabulous new album - I think that 'Don't Pretend You Didn't Know' is a contender for Song of the Year. I can't get past how easy these guys make it all sound.
David's Lyre - Picture of our Youth
nice voice, great melodies - just great.
I like him ... a lot.
http://open.spotify.com/user/inkjetlakes/playlist/0aeB6Kdzx8sah8YhVhnu86
Rolo Tomassi- Astraea
Still got it, even without the Joes.
PAWS - Cokefloat
another new british guitar band ripping off 90s americanisms but i don't care, this is a fantastic album.
The Invisible - Rispah
This shit is good. It was described on here in a thread as "like Radiohead" but it's a lot better than that. Very good stuff.
http://open.spotify.com/album/6pneU09Bt0eswptfgiOfeD
Better than Radiohead eh
Bat For Lashes - The Haunted Man
I really think this is at least as good as her previous two, and it feels like a massive grower. Just wonderful.
My Jerusalem - Preachers
So good.
Pinback - Information Received Lp
A work of genius by a great, great band
oh and a link to the opening track from this fine LP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV7PmyLaBhs
Chromatics - Kill For Love
Has this seriously not been posted already? Jesus. Fantastic record, obviously.
i love it but why does it have to be so long...
...doesn't it know i have a tight schedule?
I like having to make time for it, it's like planning and sitting down to watch a film
BUT A FILM FOR YOUR EARS
MIND=BLOWN!
you ain't wrong.
Virgin Mary - Ecstasy
www.vmrock.com
Up and coming honolulu based indie band. All female with male lead vocals. Careful, these songs will get stuck in your head.
Check out the just released official music video:
http://youtu.be/kfZKqIzVQ0c
We Are the Physics - Your Friend, the Atom
http://open.spotify.com/album/2p1ZOSAUVhagxO9rw6lqWT
For fans of Dananananana this shit is brilliant. Really enjoying this album a lot. Bit of a fan.
Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
I'm no hip-hop head, but this is class. Funny, too. 'Did somebody say, 'Dominoes?"
Ringo Deathstarr - Mauve
Like Isn't Anything with the energy of early Swirlies. Late contender for album of the year for me.
Goat and Ty
World Music from Goat is an excellent piece of an album and Twins from Ty Segall, some say it's leftovers from Slaughterhouse, but i disagree with that : Slaughterhouse is great, but Twins beats it by far, it's mudhoneyesque in a superfuzz bigmuff way
Goat - World Music is an excellent album
The Chariot - One Wing
I think this is my favourite metal album of the year. Even if you don't like metal/hardcore, it's worth checking out for the experimentation and weirdness The Chariot dip into. I've not heard any of their other stuff, but I bloody love this.
Their previous album "The Fianceé"
is definitely worth a listen if you like One Wing
Mac DeMarco - Rock and Roll Nightclub and 2
Most refreshing thing I've heard in ages and more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Mount Eerie - Ocean Roar
I'd never really clicked with Mt. Eerie before for some reason, but oh my, this is actually fucking tremendous.
http://open.spotify.com/album/11Z4Lfi2IHIYoDvpJNAXSx
My Autumn Empire - II
Great solo album by Ben Holten of Epic45 that it seems nobody has been exposed to... Really great McCartney / ELO influenced sound, great songs. Check it out!
The Yawns - The Yawns.
Fucking great scuzzy guitar pop from Scotland. New favourite band in the world.
http://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/album-review-the-yawns-the-yawns/
Rustie - Glass Swords
Yeah, this is sublime. The finest electronic record I've personally heard all year.
And I've immediately realised it came out last year
The Neptune awards thing Sean did confused me.
SORRY EVERYONE. (Wow this is amazing though right?)
Anawaty/Russell - Analog Universe
http://music.anawatyrussell.com/album/analog-universe-2
Beautiful timeless music.
Dan Deacon - America
A sprawling electronic epic, full of energy and melody and verve. If this had been the new Animal Collective record everyone would have lost their shit over this.
I've been a fan of Dan Deacon for a wee while now
this is good.
Definitely in my top 3.
The America song quartet at the end is just beautiful. Epic, soaring strings, skittery bleeps and beats meld into a perfect whole.
Mine too.
Two recent guitar albums to recommend:
The Evens - The Odds
The Babies - Our House on the Hills
Boy/girl haromonies too. All great!
Lust for Youth - Growing Seeds
Dark synth heaven, fans of John Maus will like this.
The Soft Moon — Zeros
Carina Round - Tigermending
She Makes War - Little Battles
The Lost Rivers - Sins & Lostness
METZ
METZ
awesome
Vinyl Williams - Lemniscate
Cemeteries - The Wilderness

Indianapolis native and platinum singer/songwriter Eric Dill returns home from Hollywood with a radio-ready full-length album. He’s currently ranking as the #1 band in Indianapolis on Reverbnation. Parting from The Click Five in 2006, Dill has focused on his solo career. One of Eric Dill’s collaborations includes the platinum song “No Surprise” by Chris Daughtry (American Idol) which was co-written with Dill. Not only did he receive a Platinum Album Award but also two BMI Pop Awards in 2010. With his solo career in full swing, Eric’s first single off his first full length solo album, Forever is Not Enough, is charting at #37 on Billboard’s Top 40 indicator chart.
I read in an Indy Star article a few weeks ago that Eric was looking to put together his backing band. I just saw Eric’s appearance on WISHTV8’s Indy Style this Monday and he’s already assembled a new band. I can’t believe they’ve only been together for a few weeks because they sounded really tight! The band performed a full electric band set of “In My Head” and “War with the Wolves.” Eric released his new single “In My Head” to national radio stations on the same day, January 14th. Eric is currently making a music video for “In My Head,” but offered a sneak peak at the video during his Indy Style appearance.
